A NEW MUSICAL COMEDY

"Visiting Suffolk to see The Best Man was one of my longest trips during my Presidential year but well worth the effort – my wife and I were blown away by the quality of The Best Man, both the writing and the performance. A worthy successor to The Reunion. The show has a good story line with lots of humour which had the audience laughing and crying throughout. It is well worthy of being performed by any society and I would love to see it entertaining audiences throughout the UK".
NODA President 2015/16 Chris Ingram

From the writers of the award winning The Reunion Ian Cook and Ian Newton, The Best Man is set in London’s East End in the Summer of 1981.

This musical comedy tells the tale of Cathy Price, a hairdresser and lover of romantic fiction, who is searching for Dagenham’s answer to Mr Darcy.
She thinks she has found him in her new boyfriend
Tony Wickham but Tony is not all he appears to be. Tony’s gambling habit has got him into serious trouble with Mr Temple, the local crime boss, and he needs some money fast. He decides to ask Cathy for the money but before he can ask her she tells him she is pregnant.

Tony decides to ask her to marry him as quickly as possible, knowing
that once they are married he can gain access to her bank account.
He asks his friend and workmate
Danny Tilney to be best man.

Danny has secretly been in love with Cathy for as long as he can remember but has never dared tell her. On the night before the wedding Danny discovers the real reason why Tony is so keen to marry. He confronts Tony who blackmails him into keeping quiet. Should Danny speak out and risk all for love, or keep quiet and watch his true love marry the wrong man?
